The Art of Gathering

In a culture that tells us independence is the ultimate goal, gathering is an act of resistance. At Inner Pttrn, we believe authentic connection and community are the real answers.

After years of hosting circles, we’ve noticed what makes these moments so powerful. Here are a few of the practices we love for fellow nurturers, space holders, and community builders.

Every detail matters (leave it to a bunch of Libra risings to create gatherings rooted in beauty). But it’s not about perfection. Intuition and intention guide us, and we lean on the five senses to shape each experience. You don’t need endless herbs, statues, or candles - just enough to remind the body: you are safe and you belong here.

Smell

We smoke cleanse to physically and energetically clear the space. Some of our go-to’s include frankincense, sage, mugwort, cinnamon, or palo santo. We also love to use Florida Water as an additional cleanse, calling in both protection and joy.

Sight

We dress a table or altar with candles, seashells, crystals, and a Rose of Jericho opening in water. Each piece reminds us of the earth and ancestry, grounding us in something much larger than ourselves. Use whatever you have, there is no right or wrong. If it means something to you, add it.

Sound

Music helps set the tone. Sometimes it’s in Spanish, sometimes in hertz frequencies, other times it’s nature sounds. We feel into the energy of the group and let the music guide us. One of our go-to playlists is available here if you need some inspo!

Taste

Nourishment is a ritual in itself, helping us return fully to our bodies after ceremony or conversation. Whether it’s fresh fruit, a family recipe, or a cup of herbal tea, food reminds us that care is both physical and communal.

Touch

A hug, a handshake, a hand on the shoulder. It sounds simple, but for many of us - especially if we live alone or work from home - days can pass without real contact. Gathering reminds us how grounding it feels to be in touch with one another.

Lastly, we’ve learned that the people who are meant to gather always find their way. It’s less about orchestrating every detail and more about creating a container where connection can unfold.

Gathering challenges the idea that independence is the highest goal. It shows us that belonging and community are what truly sustain us.

As we move through the rhythms of the moon, we continue to return to this practice, creating spaces where intention and connection meet. Each circle is another chance to remember: togetherness is the way forward.

✨ Join us for our next New Moon Circle Saturday August 23rd at 2 PM in Astoria, New York and feel the art of gathering for yourself.
